RUNNING ASSESSMENT
Why PERFORM A RUNNING ASSESSMENT?
Have you recently experienced a running injury? If so, this is not completely abnormal. More than half of all runners deal with an injury each year, and this number continues to rise annually, despite a generally better understanding of running.
Many injuries can result from a running technique that is not ideal for you, including shin splints, tendon issues such as achilles tendinitis, heel spurs, recurring muscle strains, hip pain, knee pain, and more.
Are you dealing with a running injury or do you want to reduce your risk of injury? Then a running analysis may be helpful. We routinely perform a running analysis for every patient who comes to us after a running injury. This allows us to better understand the factors that contributed to the injury. The results of this analysis enable us to create a more comprehensive treatment plan that not only improves your current issue but also reduces the risk of future injuries.
How is a RUNNING ASSESSMENT conducted?
Intake
We start with a thorough conversation about your running habits, nutrition, footwear, and other factors that may influence running injuries.
Physical examination
In which we assess, among other things:
- Postural deviations
- Mobility of the hip, knee, ankle, and foot
- Strength and length of the leg muscles
Biomechanical video analysis
Assessment of your running technique on a treadmill. We ask you to run at specific speeds and record videos from different angles. Afterwards, we analyze these videos, looking at your running style, cadence, pelvis and trunk stability, and the position of your feet, knees, and hips while running.
Review of the RESULTS
After the analysis, we share the main findings in clear language. For each finding, we provide tips to help you improve your running technique.
What else should you know
Whether for prevention or treatment of an existing injury, your treatment may include a combination of:
- Exercise therapy to improve strength, mobility, and/or neuromuscular control
- Advice on running load, running style, and cross-training
- Manual therapy
- Dry needling
- Sports medical taping
The exercises are tailored to your specific condition and abilities. We always go through these exercises with you, provide tips for proper execution, and make adjustments when necessary.
The analysis costs 90 EUR and will take about 1 hour.
A gait analysis provides a ton of information that we analyze and present for you:
- You receive concrete tips to improve your running style
- You gain insight into how your running style affects your running efficiency
- You learn to quickly recognize the early signs of injury to prevent them from developing
- You understand which muscles to strengthen to reduce the risk of injury
- You discover which injuries you may be prone to based on your running style
