BPPV stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and is a form of spinning dizziness (vertigo).
You experience short, intense episodes of dizziness, often accompanied by nausea, a feeling of unsteadiness, and/or temporary blurred vision.
The symptoms usually occur with specific head movements, such as:
The symptoms usually disappear spontaneously after a few seconds to minutes.
BPPV develops when tiny crystals (otoconia) in the inner ear become dislodged from the utricle and move into the semicircular canals. When the head changes position, these crystals shift, causing abnormal fluid movement in the canals. The brain interprets this as spinning (vertigo), even though the body is still. It’s often triggered by age, head trauma, or inner ear disorders.
we treat BPPV with repositioning or liberation maneuvers.
We guide your head through a series of targeted movements, often using special goggles that track your eye movements.
This helps to move the dislodged crystals back into their proper position in the inner ear.
Often, 1 to 3 sessions are sufficient to relieve the symptoms.
If symptoms persist, without any other underlying causes, you will be given specific exercises.
These help you become less sensitive to the triggers that cause dizziness.
Feel free to contact us. Together, we will determine whether BPPV is the cause and start a targeted treatment immediately.
